Working Families Day 2025

Working Families Day 2025

Hoʻoikaika Partnership joined Hawaiʻi Children’s Action Network (HCAN) and more than 50 organizations for Working Families Day at the Hawaiʻi State Capitol for a resource fair with legislators followed by a rally and press conference. The Hoʻoikaika Partnership table was staffed by Mia Sado-Magbual (CFS), Jenna Taylor (Imua Family Services) and HP coordinator Deb Marois. We were delighted to see several allies in person including Tonia Mahi and Elladine Olevao (DHS-CWS), Saki Blissit (HP website design team), and the whole HCAN team with the event coordination led by Mele Andrade.

Hoʻoikaika Partnership was honored to speak with Representative Lisa Marten, chair of both the Human Services and Homelessness committee and the Keiki Caucus. Rep Marten spent some time explaining her views on HB1194 related to midwifery and we shared the Hoʻoikaika Partnership birthing choice fact sheet that outlines the connection between trauma-informed care and child abuse prevention. Rep Marten also appreciated our public education efforts and expressed interest in distributing Kalo Boy’s Adventure to Make Pono to schools in her district.

A press conference and rally was held to bring attention to issues such as paid family leave. “We will not stop our cause until all of our neighbors are thriving.” said Tina Andrade, one of several featured speakers and Chief Operating Officer of Catholic Charities Hawaiʻi and member of Hawaiʻi True Cost Coalition.
