OUR IMPACT

Strengthening Families. Building Community.

At Hoʻoikaika Partnership, impact means families feeling supported, connected and empowered. Through collaboration, education and advocacy, we strengthen families across Maui County by connecting them to essential services, advocating for systemic change and building community support so no family has to navigate challenges alone.

A HUI DEDICATED TO PREVENTING CHILD ABUSE and NEGLECT IN MAUI COUNTY

We help families access services and supports in Maui County. The social services system can be overwhelming. Our Navigator acts as a “guide by the side” to connect families with services.

Educational Outreach

Teaching FAMILIES ABOUT PROTECTIVE FACTORS AND PROMOTING EARLY LITERACY

Our public education campaign focuses on promoting protective factors, fostering early literacy, and strengthening family bonds while celebrating our vibrant Hawaiian culture.

Advocacy Efforts

Participating in statewide efforts to strengthen resilience

We invite partners to join our meetings, committees, and collaborative projects to increase and improve access to social, health, and family support services.

HOW WE SUPPORT THE WORKFORCE

We provide training courses designed to support new professional development. These are self-directed learning, allowing participants to set their own learning goals and revisit materials at their own pace.

Protective Factors & Hawaiian Values

This training explores how cultural values and traditions strengthen protective factors and support the well-being of everyone. Strong cultural ties can build resilience, foster belonging, and improve outcomes in child welfare.

Self-Care

Self-care is an ethical requirement in social work. What makes you pono? Well-being isn’t always something tangible; it could be giving back. This module offers space to reflect and explore self-care that aligns with personal and collective values.

Trauma-Informed Care

Trauma-informed care begins with understanding how trauma impacts individuals and communities. This module invites you to explore key principles of trauma-informed practice and how they align with collective healing and cultural values.

Working with Hawaiʻi’s Populations

Serving Hawaiʻi’s diverse communities requires cultural awareness, humility, and a deep respect for history and place. This module offers space to learn about the unique strengths, challenges, and lived experiences of Hawaiʻi’s people.

Healing the Healers

Healing the Healers was launched after the 2023 Maui wildfires to support frontline health and human service providers who were carrying significant emotional labor while also navigating their own losses.

Thanks to the generous support of the Maui Strong Fund, administered by the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation, Hoʻoikaika Partnership was able to host Healing the Healers for the last two years. The sessions were co-facilitated by Michele Navarro Ishiki of MNI Counseling and Heidi Allencastre of Piha Wellness and Healing, enabling providers to lean into each other for peer support as part of post-wildfire recovery. This was a safe, supportive space for providers to decompress and focus on their mental wellness.

Mahalo nui loa to all the providers who have participated, bringing your vulnerability, creativity and full selves to the process. We are grateful to our partner and allied agencies across Maui County who recognized the value of self-care and encouraged staff to participate.

Networking with others in the community who continue to do what we do for our Maui keiki, all of us here go out beyond our job description to provide love and aloha to every keiki and ʻohana we encounter.

for our community

ʻOHANA FEST

Every year, we host a gathering for families and keiki to enjoy fun activities, receive concrete supports, and learn about the community resources they can receive on Maui. This is a free event held every April, in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month, that engages both the community and our participating partners that offer a variety of services. There are games, crafts and cultural activities for everyone to enjoy.

FOR OUR WORKFORCE

HOʻOIKAIKA ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Health and human service providers, first responders and early childhood educators gather for a day of learning, connection, and healing-centered conversations grounded in Hawaiian values and Maui community experience. Whether you’re a seasoned provider or just beginning your journey in service to children and families, this conference is a chance to recharge, reconnect, and remember that none of us stands alone.
