How you can help in the prevention of child abuse and neglect
In 2011, Maui County communities came together to talk about the prevention of child abuse and neglect. From Lanai to Wailuku from Paia to Hana, focus groups were conducted with both teenagers and adults to talk about what prevention looks like and ways that we can engage as a community to stop child abuse and neglect before it happens. These brochures were created with the efforts of these groups.
The main purpose of these brochures is to give neighbors, family, youth, doctors, church leaders, teachers and our community member’s information, images and ideas to help in the prevention of child abuse and neglect. Often we are in a position to do something when a family or child is at risk but we don’t know what to do or don’t want to get involved. With the information in the brochures, our hope is that you will be empowered to make that next step, perhaps making the difference in one child’ life by simply getting involved in an effective and safe way.
Take a moment to review the brochure information, download it and forward it to others. The more people know about promoting protective factors, the healthier our community will be.
